The Anacostia Museum & Center for African American History and Culture Branch offers exhibitions and public programs about the history and culture of the African diaspora in the Western hemisphere. One of 20 branch libraries in the Smithsonian Institution Libraries (SIL) system, this branch supports the research, exhibitions, and public programs of the Anacostia Museum, the Center for African American History and Culture and other museums and offices within the Smithsonian and the larger scholarly community. This collection was organized as part of the Smithsonian Institution Libraries in 1991.
